Administrator Boot Camp

The course is intended for the EMS professional that is or is seeking a role as an administrator responsible for the success or failure of the organization, but has limited formal experience or training.

Administrators Require Specific Leadership Skills

Leading an EMS agency for the first time is an exciting yet daunting task for the inexperienced. The long term ability of the agency to serve the community today and in the future is your responsibility. Screw it up and lives are on the line. This boot camp is designed to provide the first time administrator with the basic building blocks to understand the dynamics of leadership, delegation, finance and working with the board of directors or owner to achieve the agency mission.

Day One

  • Time management - balancing: teaching, personal development, data management, maintenance of skills and knowledge, assessments
  • Risk management - patient safety, personal safety, public safety, injury prevention, mitigation
  • Performance management - quality assurance, evaluation techniques, research, outcomes, reporting
  • Program development - needs assessments, design, development, implementation, evaluation

Day Two

  • Project management: Goal setting, objectives, logic model, output, outcome, etc
  • Mastering People Management: How to dramatically improve communication with staff
  • Drafting the Players and Signing Them to Contracts: Recruitment, Orientation, Compliance and Retention
  • Who's That Guy in the White Coat? The Medical Director’s Role
  • Calling the Plays and Watching Them Run: Organizing Effective Teams
  • When is Free too Expensive? Performance Improvement for Volunteers

Day Three

  • Marketing: How to interact and deal with boards, councils and committees
  • How to create and lead change (it's not management)
  • Mastering People Management: How to lead manage direct or indirect reports (supervisors, directors, etc) and delegate
  • Big picture: What every EMS executive needs to know about EMS systems and the EMS industry today; how to become informed and stay informed
  • Marketing: Tell your story: How to market your organization, mission, and plan up and down the ladder
  • Technology: Letting the task drive the technology (not vice versa)
